What sets the ground apart is the surface. The pitch is artificial turf, which was installed during a renovation that ran through 2012. The change from natural grass marked a shift for the stadium, and it held FIFA and CONCACAF certification for the installation in 2023. The 10,000 capacity is divided into sections: 5,000 general (sun) seats, 3,500 shaded seats, and 1,500 preferred south seats. The original build opened in 1951, and the expansion work in 2009 and 2013 brought the numbers up.

The stadium has hosted matches for the El Salvador national football team, including CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualifiers, and track and field events during the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. Santa Tecla FC returned to playing at Las Delicias for the Clausura 2024 tournament after previously playing elsewhere. The venue also hosts concerts and other athletic events throughout the year.
