Home matches are played at Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecla, a ground of about 10,000 in the department of La Libertad.

The team's first official international was played on 21 July 1998 in Guatemala, a 1-1 draw with Honduras. What followed was two decades of very little: 13 official wins in twenty years.

Érick Acuña took charge in November 2020. They won the Central American Championship in 2023, took bronze at the Central American and Caribbean Games the same year, and qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2024. Qualification for the 2026 W Championship followed. At the 2025 Central American Games they reached a final for the first time and lost it 1-0 to Costa Rica.

Brenda Cerén has captained the side since 2018 and is the leading scorer in its history.
