Central American and Caribbean Games 2026/27

The football tournament at the Central American and Caribbean Games forms a discipline within the multi-sport event organized by Centro Caribe Sports (CCS), formerly known as ODECABE or CACSO. The Games were founded in 1926, with the first edition held in Mexico City, though the football tournament was not held until 1930 in Havana due to a lack of participating teams in 1926. The men's tournament has historically varied in age restrictions: it featured senior teams in the 1930s, Olympic/amateur teams from 1950–1986, U-23 in 1990, U-20 in 1993, U-21 in 1998, U-22 in 2002 and 2006, and U-22/U-23 in recent editions (2014, 2018, 2023). The women's tournament, introduced in 2010, has no age restrictions and is contested by senior national teams. Mexico is the most successful nation in both categories, with 7 men's titles (1935, 1938, 1959, 1966, 1990, 2014, 2023) and 3 women's titles (2014, 2018, 2023). Cuba holds 5 men's titles. The format typically involves 8 teams per gender (though 7 men's teams participated in 2023) divided into two groups, followed by semi-finals, a bronze medal match, and a gold medal match. There is no promotion or relegation; participation is by invitation of member National Olympic Committees. A notable event was the cancellation of the men's tournament in 2010 due to venue standards, while the women's tournament proceeded. The next edition is scheduled for 2026 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
