Mexico Women

Mexico beat them 3-1 in the final at Barranquilla in 2018, then 2-1 in San Salvador in 2023, both times to take gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games. The first of those golds had come in 2014 at Veracruz, at home.

A women's side from Costa Rica travelled through Mexico in 1963, and players who watched them set about putting a Mexican team together. The first match under that banner was a hard lesson: 12-0 to the United States in Port-au-Prince, in qualifying for the CONCACAF championship.

Second place in 1998 and again in 2010, third in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2014 — and those finishes were enough to carry the team to the World Cup in 1999, 2011 and 2015.

Marisol Domínguez holds both of the numbers that matter most: 116 appearances and 86 goals. Pedro López has run the side since late 2022.

There is no fixed home. Matches have gone to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, but the ground the team returns to is the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, 87,523 seats and due to come down to 80,824 before the 2026 World Cup.
