That first payoff came in 1991, when the United States won the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup. Three more followed, in 1999, 2015 and 2019, alongside Olympic gold in 1996, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2024 and nine CONCACAF championships.
In February 2022 the players settled a lawsuit against the federation for $24 million, and with it secured equal pay and equal bonuses alongside the men's team, closing a dispute that had run for years.
The squad now trains at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, which has hosted the team more often than any other venue: 21 matches since 2003.
