About

The SheBelieves Cup is an invitational tournament for women’s senior national teams, organized by the United States Soccer Federation. It operates outside the domestic league pyramid as a high-profile preparation event during the February international window. The competition began in 2016, launched alongside a global empowerment campaign following the host nation’s World Cup success. Typically, four teams compete in a round-robin format over three matchdays. Matches are played in various cities across the United States, with the winner determined by total points accumulated. Standard tiebreakers include goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head results, and fair play rankings. While the format briefly shifted to a knockout bracket in 2024 due to scheduling conflicts, it has reverted to the round-robin structure in subsequent years.

United States is the most successful nation in the competition’s history. They have won the trophy eight times, securing five consecutive titles from 2020 to 2024. Other winners include France in 2017, England in 2019, and Japan in 2025. The tournament features a global participant pool, distinct from regional competitions. The official title sponsor is Visa, who also present the MVP award. No promotion or relegation is involved, as the event serves strictly as a competitive fixture for national squads. The current edition includes Iceland, the Czech Republic, Argentina, New Zealand, Japan, and Colombia. The competition remains a significant fixture in the early stages of the international calendar, offering teams a chance to test formations and players against international opposition before major tournaments.
