Argentina Women

Argentina head into their next World Cup cycle still building on the run that took them to France in 2019 and again to 2023. Germán Portanova has managed the side since July 2021, working with a squad built around Aldana Cometti, who captains the team and has earned 108 caps.

Florencia Bonsegundo carries the attacking weight as the side's all-time leading scorer, with 27 goals. Behind her, Vanina Correa has been the constant presence in goal, playing in every World Cup Argentina has reached.

The Albiceleste's one major title came in 2006, when they beat Brazil 2–0 in the final to win the South American Women's Football Championship. A silver medal at the Pan American Games and bronze at the South American Games have followed at various points since, modest additions next to that one continental crown.

Home games are staged at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires, a ground that holds 85,018. The Argentine Football Association runs the national programme.

The team's formal existence dates to 1993, set up after the Campeonato de Fútbol Femenino had been established two years earlier, in October 1991. Argentina's women had already appeared once before any of that, sent to the 1971 Women's World Cup as an unofficial delegation, more than two decades before the federation gave the side its official standing.
