«La Roja»
La Cartuja does not belong to Spain alone. The Olympic stadium in Seville has no permanent tenant of its own kind, which is exactly why the federation returns there for the matches that matter most rather than settling on a single ground the way a club would.
That fits a side that spent decades building toward something before it arrived all at once. Spain played its first international in 1971, against Portugal, and the distance between that fixture and a world title is most of a lifetime. The wait ended in 2023, when a low, driven finish from Olga Carmona beat England 1–0 in the final. Aitana Bonmatí was named the tournament's best player and went on to collect the Ballon d'Or Féminin in both 2023 and 2024.
Only the European title has slipped away twice at the final hurdle.
