The Pinatar Cup is the one line of silverware Belgium's women can point to, and it came the hard way: a goalless final against Russia in 2022, settled 7–6 on penalties. Three years earlier they had already shown the nerve for shootouts, beating Austria from the spot to finish third at the Cyprus Cup. Neither trophy carries the weight of a continental title, but they mark the only moments the team has stood on a podium.

The bigger measure of where the side has arrived came at the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, where they reached the quarter-finals — still their best showing in a major tournament, and the one result that suggests the cup wins were not a fluke.

The team took shape in 1976, playing its first international against France on 30 May that year and losing 2–1. For much of that time it went by Rode Duivelinnen; the switch to Red Flames came only between 2013 and 2015.

No fixture matters more than the one against the Netherlands, known on both sides of the border as the Low Countries derby. France, England and Austria turn up regularly on the fixture list, but it is the Dutch match that carries the edge.

The Red Flames have no single ground to call their own. They move between Brussels, Anderlecht and Leuven, though the biggest occasions tend to land at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.
