Catania, 27 June 1981: Poland's women played their first official international and lost 3–0 to Italy. Unofficial fixtures had taken place back in the 1920s, but FIFA and UEFA date the side from that afternoon in Sicily.

That result came at the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, where Poland reached the quarter-finals. A World Cup or an Olympic place has never followed — the qualification wall has held so far — and the highest FIFA ranking the team has managed is 24th.

The squad has no single home ground.

On the pitch they wear white and red, the colours of the flag, and the nickname follows the same pattern: Biało-Czerwone, the White and Reds.
