Estádio Nivaldo Pereira
Nova Iguaçu, Brazil
The ground carries the name of the man who paid for it. Nivaldo Pereira , a civil construction businessman and president of Artsul Futebol Clube , owns the site, and the club he runs plays its home matches there. Locally it is the Nivaldão ; before the name settled, people simply called it the Estádio do Artsul.
It sits on the Rodovia Presidente Dutra , the highway that carries traffic between Rio and São Paulo, out where Comendador Soares runs into Austin on the far edge of Nova Iguaçu .
The exception comes through the youth game. The state federation has sent the finals of the Campeonato Carioca Sub-17 and Sub-20 here, which is how Vasco da Gama , Flamengo and Botafogo end up on the teamsheet at a ground their senior sides never visit.
Beyond that the pitch stays a working surface of natural grass and nothing else. No concerts, no national cup finals, no attempt to make the venue something it was not built to be.
