It opened as the Estadio Departamental de Santa Cruz, became the Estadio William Bendeck after the racing driver's death, and only took its current name once the city chose to honour Ramón "Tahuichi" Aguilera Costas.
It has kept its natural turf throughout, on Avenida San Aurelio in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
