Oriente Petrolero

State-owned oil company YPFB needed a football team, and on 5 November 1955 its workers in Santa Cruz de la Sierra put one together, with Elmer Saucedo Parada as the club's first president. Locals still call the club Los Refineros.

That working-class origin gave the city's derby its edge. Blooming, the crosstown rival, drew its following from a different part of Santa Cruz's social ledger, and by the mid-1960s the fixture had a name of its own, the Clásico Cruceño.

Oriente Petrolero has taken the Bolivian championship five times, most recently in the 2010 Clausura, with earlier titles in 1971, 1979, 1990 and 2001. The 2010 season stood out further: the club also won an international four-team tournament in Peru that year. Two Copa Aerosur titles, in 2003 and 2005, sit alongside those league wins.

Home matches are played at the Estadio Ramón Tahuichi Aguilera.
