Universitario de Vinto

The rivalry Universitario de Vinto lacks a name for tells its own story: no clásico waits for this club, only proximity. Aurora and Jorge Wilstermann share the Cochabamba department and a fixture they call the Clásico cochabambino between themselves, leaving Vinto to watch from the outside. The closest thing to an enemy arrived only in 2024, when San Antonio Bulo Bulo met them in the Apertura final — a local grudge with no title attached to it yet.

The club grew out of a university side from the early 2000s and was registered as a professional outfit on 23 March 2005. Its home ground, the Estadio Sudamericano Félix Capriles, sits not in Vinto itself but in Cochabamba, and holds around 32,000 depending on how the seating is configured.

Promotion came through the Copa Simón Bolívar in 2021, Bolivia's second-tier competition, where Vinto beat Universitario de Sucre over two legs — a 2-1 win followed by a 1-2 defeat. That result put the club into the División Profesional from 2022, and it has stayed there since, though never comfortably: relegation battles in 2022 and 2023, a 13th-place finish in 2024, and now 14th out of 16 through the 2025–2026 season.

Colombian forward Tommy Tobar became the figure supporters point to from the 2024–2025 campaigns. Others have worn the captain's armband or been called into the national side — Víctor Ábrego picked up a Bolivia call-up in 2023 — but none has stayed long enough to become the kind of name a small club builds an identity around.

Continental football has meant two entries in the Copa Sudamericana, in 2024 and 2025, and both ended at the first round. The Copa Bolivia has yet to produce a win. Vinto still has no domestic title beyond that single promotion, no cup run to speak of, and no derby of its own — just a place in the table it keeps having to defend.
