Gdański Stadion Lekkoatletyczny i Rugby

The name is the whole point: in a city where the big fixtures go to the football bowl by the motorway, athletics and rugby in Gdańsk have an address of their own, at Al. Grunwaldzka 244, and do not have to wait for a gap in anyone else's calendar.

The site is not new. Before the rebuild of 2015–2016 it held the old ground of the Gdańsk Physical Culture Centre, shortened in everyday use to GOKF Stadion; the present name was settled only when the rebuilt arena was handed its debut, at two in the afternoon on 22 October 2016, opened by the President of Gdańsk.

The main field is grass, and matches stay on it. Alongside sits a separate training pitch of artificial turf, 30 by 60 metres, which takes the wear that would otherwise fall on the playing surface — the reason the grass survives a season of rugby.

What the ground has never had is the city's headline traffic. The 2012 European Championship, the 2021 Europa League final and a concert crowd of 52,500 in 2024 all belong to Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, formerly Stadion Energa Gdańsk, on the other side of town. Nor has a sponsor's name ever been attached here. The stadium is run by Gdański Ośrodek Sportu, the municipal sports body.
