The green shirts came off first. What is now AP Orlen Gdańsk started life inside the orbit of Lechia Gdańsk, playing in the same colour as the men's club across the city, and only later went its own way — dark grey, black and white through the Lotos years, then black and pink from 2022.

The club dates from 2013 and spent its first years climbing. Second division in 2014/15, then the group win in the second tier in 2016/17 that carried it into the I liga, and in 2020 the promotion that mattered: a place in the Ekstraliga, Poland's top women's division, with the debut season following in 2020/21.

The home ground is the Gdańsk Athletics and Rugby Stadium, which holds 936 including 12 places for wheelchair users. There is no single training base. The squads work across the city: Smoleńska, Dworska, Wyzwolenia, Grunwaldzka, Traugutta.
