Śląsk Wrocław Women

The advertisement went out in the first week of August 2023: Śląsk Wrocław were looking for players, and not for one team. Six were planned at once, from the youngest age groups up to a senior side.

That arrangement also handed them a name older than anyone in the dressing room. Wojskowe, the Militarians, goes back to 1947 and a merger of two military schools; the full title, Wojskowy Klub Sportowy, has stayed on the paperwork ever since. A section founded in 2023 inherited it whole.

The senior team went straight into the Ekstraliga Women, which is the detail that makes the rest of it unusual. Most sides assembled from scratch spend their first years working upwards. Śląsk did not: they finished second in 2023/24, then third the following season.

What remains is the thing they have twice come close to and not taken.
