Holstein-Stadion

The ground retains the name it took in 1965, when it stopped being the Holstein-Platz. It sits on the Witthöftsche Koppel, a plot leased from the city, and has not seen the commercial naming rights. The original structure was a simple wooden grandstand, a far cry from the modular steel East Stand that NÜSSLI completed in 2019. That addition brought the capacity to 15,034, a figure that came after the 2006 renovation had cut the terraces away and brought the number down to 10,200.

The pitch is covered in heiler Sporthybrid R, a hybrid grass system installed in the summer of 2020 to reinforce the natural surface. The Nordtribüne and Westtribüne provide covered seating while the new East Stand adds both seats and standing. The floodlights were added in 1957, allowing games to continue after dusk.

The all-time record of 30,000 was set on March 23, 1951, during an Oberliga Nord match against Hamburger SV. That day the game ended in a 3-3 draw. More recently, the ground hosted a DFB-Pokal quarter-final against VfB Stuttgart in 2026 and saw a pitch invasion when Holstein Kiel won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2024. The American football team Kiel Baltic Hurricanes played here until 2012, and the venue held the first post-WWII German Field Handball Championship final in 1950.
