KAMAZ
Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia
The main stand at the Kamaz stadium in Naberezhnye Chelny presents a distinct mix of eras. The building itself is a modern structure, yet it sits beside the original concrete grandstand which was retained during the 2015 reconstruction. This older section shows the wear of forty years, while the new stand offers a clean interior with a large glass window overlooking the pitch.
The view from inside is dominated by a tall, white metal floodlight tower that stands outside the main seating area. The pitch is covered in artificial turf, the green surface contrasting with the grey concrete track that previously circled it. That track was removed to bring the stands closer to the action, a decision that reduced the capacity significantly but tightened the atmosphere for those who remain. On the far side, the seating is arranged in a simple block, with advertising boards lining the perimeter.
Beyond the stadium walls, a fence separates the ground from the surrounding area, decorated with a large banner depicting a player in motion. The landscape is flat, with trees visible in the distance under a wide sky. The ground feels open, exposed to the weather, but the new roof covers provide shelter for the few hundred seats it now holds. It is a functional space, built for local football rather than spectacle, where the focus remains entirely on the game being played.
