It is the home of the Sharks, who have held a lease on the facility since 1996. The club joined the league that year, but the ground had hosted rugby since it opened in 1958. The Sharks rugby union team hold a fifty-year lease on the facility running until 2056. The venue hosted the semi-final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, where South Africa defeated France 19–15. It also staged a quarter-final and three pool matches during that tournament. The record attendance is 57,000, set during a 2002 Tri Nations Series match between South Africa and New Zealand.
The stadium has seen several name changes over the years, from ABSA Stadium to Mr Price Kings Park and Growthpoint Kings Park. It is used by Durban-based Premier Soccer League clubs such as AmaZulu and Golden Arrows for home matches. The playing surface is natural grass, and the current regular capacity is 46,000.
