The surface beneath the players is now a hybrid pitch, laid down as part of a recent overhaul that brought the capacity down to 48,063. It is the home of the Harambee Stars, and the place where the final of the 2024 African Nations Championship took place. It is also where Mathare United and Tusker F.C. play their matches, and where the Safari Sevens rugby tournament ends each year.
The stadium has a history, but the renovations have smoothed its edges. The old natural grass has been replaced, and the VIP booths are new, but the concrete remains the same.
