Þorlákshafnarvöllur (GeoSalmo völlurinn)

Þorlákshöfn, Iceland

Formerly: Þorlákshafnarvöllur

Fish, not football, gave this ground its current name. Þorlákshafnarvöllur became GeoSalmo völlurinn once the local aquaculture firm put its name on the pitch — fixtures for the 2026 season already carry the new title, though nobody has pinned down the exact date the sign changed.

The ground belongs to KF Ægir, founded in 1987 and still Þorlákshöfn's football club. The town once had a second outfit too: Ungmennafélagið Þór, a multi-sport club dating to 1960 that fielded its own football side. The Icelandic FA's records list a ground called Þórshafnarvöllur for that team, and whether it sat on the same turf as Ægir's pitch or somewhere else in town has never been settled in the records available. Whatever the answer, the question turned moot in 2024 and 2025, when the two clubs opened talks to merge into a single body, Umf. Þór & Ægir.

Ægir's own history here runs mostly through the Icelandic Cup: the side found no answer in a 4-2 last-16 defeat in 2012, then reached the same stage again in 2022. No crowd record survives, and nothing resembling an incident has been logged at the ground. Þór's basketball team, champions of Iceland in 2021, plays its home games in the indoor hall next door rather than out on the grass.
