Þorlákshafnarvöllur carries two names — the ground itself, and GeoSalmo völlurinn, the sponsor's tag attached to it — and even the seat count is disputed. Wikipedia lists the capacity at 1,600; Soccerway, Transfermarkt and Forza Football put it at 1,000. A count taken in person by Nordic Stadiums found 2,000 places, 376 of them seated. Ægir themselves have never published a figure of their own to settle it.

The club was formed on 6 December 1987, when three fishing settlements on the south coast — Þorlákshöfn, Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri — pooled their footballers under one name. The arrangement did not hold. Stokkseyri withdrew within a year, and Eyrarbakki's involvement wound down through the following decade; by 1998 Ægir belonged to Þorlákshöfn alone.

They play in yellow and black, as set out in the club's own statutes.

Their honours sit at the lower levels of the league pyramid: the 4. deild karla title in 1994 and again in 2020, and the 2. deild karla in 2025, a result that lifts them into the Lengjudeild for the 2026 season.

Jón Guðni Fjóluson came through the club's own ranks before winning 18 caps for Iceland and playing his club football in Belgium, Sweden and Norway, with a spell at Krasnodar in Russia along the way.

Ægir list no rivals. Their closest tie to another club runs the other way — a youth partnership with Hamar in place since 2007.

The Icelandic Cup has stayed out of reach. Ægir's best run in the competition ended at the quarter-final stage, in 2022.
