They call it El Templo Sagrado in San Cristóbal. The ground belongs to the Instituto Nacional del Deporte, which began building it in 1974.

The first match, on 11 January 1976, put Deportivo San Cristóbal against Deportivo Cali and finished goalless. Ahead of the Copa América 2007, Venezuela spent $33.5 million on it across 2006 and 2007: the capacity went from roughly 25,000 to 38,755, a new roof went over the main stand, the lighting was replaced, and VIP zones and a press area were built where none had existed. It reopened on 20 June 2007 with a friendly against the Basque Country.

Four Copa América matches followed that summer, drawing crowds of 40,000 — among them the quarter-final in which Venezuela lost 1–4 to Uruguay. The stadium had already hosted the South American Youth Championship in 1991, and in 1982 the band Resistencia played a concert here.

The pitch is natural grass. Under a sponsorship deal with the Liga FUTVE, the ground currently carries the name Pueblo Nuevo TriunfoBet.
