The Sportanlage Fritzewiese sits in the Horn district, a piece of ground that spent its early life as pasture. The area only turned to sport in 1927, when the newly formed hockey club HC Horn played its first matches on grass there.
The Fritzewiese has since grown into a proper sports centre, and it now carries the club's full programme — first team, reserves, and a women's side all draw on the same natural-grass pitch.
At 2,500 capacity, it was never meant to be more than that.
