Sportpark de Wetering
Genemuiden, Netherlands
Sportpark de Wetering does not hide behind glass towers or a corporate facade.
The ground feels enclosed by trees.
SC Genemuiden have played here since the 1930s, though the permanent clubhouse was not built until 1980. The club moved from a muddy patch known as Veerweg, where cows graze, to this site. The 1980 opening was marked by volunteer labour and the presence of the local mayor.
The pitch is synthetic, which keeps the surface consistent regardless of the Dutch rain. Ancillary fields nearby are natural grass. The venue holds 5,900 spectators, though a crowd of 2,500 for a KNVB Cup tie against FC Groningen in 2011 remains the highest firmly recorded for the ground. They lost that game after extra time.
