Stade du Commandant Bougouin
Rennes, France
Formerly: Stade-Vélodrome, Vélodrome de Rennes
It sits on a street named for a doctor. The ground is not a monument to football, and it stopped being one many years ago. It was built to host cyclists, with a track that circled the central pitch, a design that is now invisible to the eye.
The stadium was renamed in the middle of the twentieth century for a man who led the local fire brigade. His name stuck when the track was removed and the stands were rebuilt.
Today, the ground is home to rugby clubs. The surface remains natural grass, maintained through an irrigation system installed after a significant overhaul in the last decade.
The capacity varies depending on who you ask and what era they are looking at. It has hosted matches that matter locally, such as an amateur team beating a professional side in a cup tie, but it is not the kind of place that fills with traffic jams or city-wide celebrations.
