Stade Maurice David
Aix-en-Provence, France
Formerly: Stade du Jas-de-Bouffan
The stadium is not large, but it is not cramped either. The main stand provides seating for spectators, though the capacity figures circulating online vary from 6,425 to nearly 9,000 depending on how one counts the standing areas or the temporary structures added for bigger matches. The official figure sits at 8,767.
The venue underwent a renovation around 2014 to meet the requirements of the Pro D2 league, adding seats and updating the facilities under the management of GL events. Before that, in the early 2000s, an architect named Stéphane Fernandez added a new reception building and a gate that was described as monumental at the time. The stadium was originally opened in 1975 as Stade du Jas-de-Bouffan, named after the local district, before being renamed Stade Maurice David in honour of the man who founded the Aix Rugby Club. The name change came after David died in 1985.
The record attendance for a match at this ground is 8,230, set during a Pro D2 fixture against Vannes in February 2024. Six Nations matches have also been played here, with the French Under-20 side facing Ireland in February 2024, though the crowd numbers for that game were not cited as a record.
