Provence Rugby

The club started out in 1970 as the Aix Rugby Club, put together by Maurice David, a lawyer and Resistance figure who had gone by the codename Colonel Thomas, and who took the presidency until 1973. There was no money for kit that first year, so the mismatched shirts donors handed over were dyed black, and the nickname Les Noirs has stuck ever since. The yellow in the colours came later, borrowed from the city's own red and yellow after a merger with the ASA club. The name itself moved twice more: to Pays d'Aix Rugby Club in 2001, then to Provence Rugby in 2015.

Honours have mostly come at Fédérale 1 level, with titles in 2004, 2015 and 2018 each converting into promotion to Pro D2, on top of an earlier Championnat de France de 3e Division win in 1986. The academy, running since 2008, produced Léo Drouet, a France Under-20 World Champion.
