Football on the site is older than the stadium. Matches were played at Plaines-du-Loup from 1904 on an earlier ground; the present arena was not a reconstruction of it but a replacement, built new and opened on 23 May 1954.
The timing was deliberate. The Yugoslavs won it 1-0.
