Stade Sapiac
Montauban, France
Stade Sapiac sits in a sunken depression in the Sapiac quarter of Montauban. It is a ground defined by its origins as a brickyard pit, dug out by the brickmaker Jean Marie Rauffet and his team between 1907 and 1908. The track was demolished in the summer of 2024, along with the original "Tribune d'Honneur," as part of an €8 million renovation that brought the stand closer to the action and laid synthetic turf over the natural grass.
What remains is the "Tribune Présidentielle," extended and modernized in 2007 and again this past summer. The capacity is now 9,210, a reduction from the 12,589 spectators who watched the match against Stade Français in the 2008–2009 season. That figure, a 22–16 victory for Montauban, remains the official record for the Top 14 era. The club has seen better days and worse, filing for bankruptcy in 2010 and rising from the Pro D2 to the top flight for the 2025–2026 campaign. The stadium has hosted concerts as well, with Dire Straits and Elton John appearing here in the 1990s and 2000s, but it is a rugby ground first.
