Stadion Miejsko-Gminny w Nowych Skalmierzycach
Nowe Skalmierzyce, Poland
What sets this ground apart from the countless other small-town Polish stadiums is how far back its story reaches. The pitch in Nowe Skalmierzyce first opened in June 1928, itself the product of a rebuild carried out over 1927 and 1928. Five years later, after a further round of work, it reopened on 2 July 1933 — a second christening that is unusual for a venue of this size and places its roots firmly in the interwar years, long before most municipal grounds of comparable scale existed at all.
Today it serves as home to KS Pogoń Nowe Skalmierzyce, and little about the ground suggests its age at first glance: the playing surface is artificial turf, laid over a pitch that has hosted football on this spot for nearly a century. Capacity sits at 2,000, enough for the club's needs, with the stadium never reaching for more than what it is — a local ground built for a local team.
It stands on ulica Mostowa, a short address that, like the ground itself, doesn't try to be anything other than straightforward.
