Stadium Lille Métropole
Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France
Formerly: Stadium Nord de Villeneuve d'Ascq, Stadium Nord, Vittel Stadium
The pitch itself is a bright green rectangle, surrounded by a blue synthetic athletics track that marks the boundary between the field and the spectator area.
The ground opened in 1976 as Stadium Nord de Villeneuve d'Ascq, a name it kept for three decades. It was the temporary home of the first team of LOSC Lille while the Stade Pierre-Mauroy was being built, but the women’s side stayed behind when the men moved on in 2012. That decision has kept the older stadium in use, hosting local matches and occasional large-scale events. In 2016, it served as one of the venues for the European Championship. The pitch was damaged during a match between Italy and the Republic of Ireland, and UEFA ordered it relaid before the next fixture.
The address is Avenue de la Châtellenie, in the town of Villeneuve-d'Ascq, where the stadium remains a functional, if somewhat understated, part of the city's sporting landscape.
