The Gnoll
Neath, United Kingdom
Its oldest stage is the cricket pitch , where Glamorgan still plays first-class matches. The ground holds rugby, too, and since 2024 the Wales national rugby league teams play there.
Capacity is 6,000 now, though some sources cite 7,500 for rugby configurations. The old days are gone: a County Championship match drew 12,000 in 1948, and a rugby fixture against Australia attracted 8,000 in 1908. Football attendance never broke 1,000, though the venue hosted a UEFA Europa League play-off in 2011.
The Gnoll has never carried a sponsored name and has kept its original identity since the mid-nineteenth century. For rugby league it hosted Wales against the Cook Islands during the 2013 World Cup, one of the smallest venues in that tournament. International fixtures against Ireland followed in the 2010 European Cup and 2011 Four Nations.
The adjacent country park received a £12 million redevelopment completed in 2025, though this did not alter the stadium itself. The Bluetones performed a concert there in 2011.
The land belongs to the Gnoll Estate, developed by the Evans and Mackworth families.
