Neither side created a big chance, but Puerto Rico's efficiency proved decisive.
Dominica's disciplinary record worsened in the second half. Lyan Abraham Edwards and E. Marshall both received yellow cards, joining Briel Thomas who had been booked earlier. Gerald Jadiel Díaz Agrait was the first substitution for the hosts in the 63rd minute, as they looked to find a way back into the contest.
Puerto Rico made changes of their own, bringing on N. Cardona and Jeremy de León together in the 78th minute. Rivera was replaced in the 85th minute alongside I. Antonetti, while Dominica continued to shuffle their back line with substitutions for Triston Sandy and Lyan Abraham Edwards.
The result extended Dominica's recent struggles against stronger opposition. They had picked up three consecutive draws before the defeat, with their last loss coming against Guyana in March. Puerto Rico, meanwhile, have now shown they can take points away from home in the competition.
The victory leaves Puerto Rico in a stronger position in the standings, while Dominica face the task of regrouping ahead of their next fixture. Three points were never in serious doubt after the early goal, and the visitors managed the game competently to see out the result.
