About the player
Born in Argentina to Romanian parents, Alexandru Pop moved to Romania as a toddler. He started out at Universitatea Cluj, breaking into the Liga II side at just 16, before Gheorghe Hagi's academy at Viitorul Constanța took him on in 2016. He won the U-19 title there in 2018.
A loan spell took him back to Universitatea Cluj, where between 2019 and 2021 he scored eight goals in 40 league appearances. The move to Unirea Dej in 2021 proved decisive for his development: he was made captain and became the club's top scorer, with 15 goals in 53 league matches over two seasons.
Oțelul Galați picked him up in June 2023 for a minimal fee, and Pop emerged as the second-highest scorer in Liga I by early 2024 with nine goals and the leading scorer among that season's newcomers to the division. He also reached the Cupa României final with the club.
That form led to a January 2025 transfer to Dinamo București for a fee of €100,000, split between Oțelul and Unirea Dej under a co-ownership arrangement dating back to his time in Dej. At international level, he has represented Romania at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level. Since joining Dinamo, Pop has made 53 league appearances and scored four goals.
