G. Diaz

A penalty against Suriname in qualifying for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup is the goal most often tied to Gerald Díaz's name with Puerto Rico. It was one of 12 he has scored for the national side, and it came in a qualifying campaign that ended with the team in the second round of the tournament.

Díaz is a central midfielder from Caguas. He made his senior international debut in 2017 and has since won 43 caps, a large total for a team that has often had to build its squad from players spread across several countries. His own route reflects that. He did not begin at home: his club career started in Spain, with Vall de Uxó and Atlético Levante.

He later moved back to Puerto Rican football, playing for Bayamón FC and Academia Quintana. That put him in the domestic game and kept him available to the national team, which he had already joined.

In 2025 he joined Miami FC, who play in the USL Championship, the second tier of the American league system. He plays there as a central midfielder, as he does for Puerto Rico.

A right-footed player, he is listed at 63 kg. His game is built on movement through the middle rather than physical size.
