John Hou Sæter

Trondheim gave John Hou Sæter his football education, and Rosenborg gave him his start, handing the forward his senior debut at just 16. A loan spell at Ranheim followed before Stabæk took him on for three seasons in the Norwegian top flight. In 2019 he made the leap to China, joining Beijing Guoan and renouncing his Norwegian passport in the process. He had represented Norway at youth level, through the U16, U17 and U18 sides, but never won a senior cap before switching allegiance.

The move to Beijing Guoan brought steady rather than spectacular numbers, 25 league appearances and three goals across his time there. It was back in Norway, on a second stint at Ranheim, that Sæter found his best form: 44 league appearances and 20 goals in a single season, enough to win the division's Golden Boot. That run persuaded Yunnan Yukun to sign him in a €500,000 deal on a two-year contract in January 2025. FIFA subsequently approved his change of international association from Norway to China that February, clearing the way for a senior international career with his adopted country.

At Yunnan Yukun he has settled into a regular role, with 48 league appearances and six goals to his name for the club heading into the 2026 season.
