About the player
Leo Östman went from a youth side in Dalarna to Elfsborg's first team in a matter of a few seasons. At Falu BS he scored 13 goals in 11 appearances in 2022, and that year he moved to Borås on a free transfer. The deal was in place earlier: he had signed a three-year contract in November 2021 that included youth terms, and he joined the club's youth system in July 2022.
He came up through the U17 and U19 sides at Elfsborg. On 9 January 2025 he was promoted to the senior squad and signed a contract running to December 2027. His Allsvenskan appearances began before that date, with the league record running from the 2024 season. He has since played 41 league matches and scored 9 goals.
The timing matters. Elfsborg's most recent league title came in 2023, before he joined the senior group, so his career has so far unfolded in a side defending a reputation rather than building one. He has not won a major team title with the club.
Östman has also played in Europe, making one appearance in the Europa League. In the Svenska Cupen he has scored once. For Sweden he has one cap at U21 level.
He plays as a right-footed centre-forward, and at 188 cm he has the height for the role.
