About the player
Lucas Alario's clearest calling card is the goal he scored in a Copa Libertadores final. He opened the scoring against Tigres UANL in the final and was named Man of the Match, part of a squad that added the Suruga Bank Championship, two Copa Argentina titles and the Recopa Sudamericana in the space of two years. That run also took River to the final of the Club World Cup, where they lost to Barcelona.
He played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen from 2017 to 2022, scoring 42 goals in 126 league appearances across five seasons, including a night in May 2019 when he scored the first Argentine hat-trick in Bundesliga history, against Hertha BSC.
Alario scored in the penalty shootout as Estudiantes beat Racing Club to win the Torneo Clausura, then scored twice in a 2–1 win over Platense to add the Trofeo de Campeones.
At international level, Alario won nine caps and scored three goals for Argentina between 2016 and 2021, including strikes against Germany and Ecuador. A thigh injury forced him out of the 2021 Copa América squad.
