About the player
Matko Babić has spent his career moving in loans and free transfers, but he finished among the Liga II's top marksmen during the 2024–25 season with CSC 1599 Șelimbăr, where he scored 15 goals in 23 league appearances, form that earned him a free transfer to FC Voluntari in Liga I on a contract running to June 2027.
Born in Zagreb, Babić came through NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, where a loan spell at NK Rudeš was followed by a return to become the club's key striker and top scorer in the 2017–18 and 2018–19 Prva HNL seasons. That form took him to HNK Rijeka in 2019, and he was part of the squad that won the 2019–20 Croatian Football Cup, though he did not feature in the 1–0 final win over Lokomotiva.
A loan to MFK Karviná in the Czech Republic preceded a longer stay in Cyprus, where Babić joined AEL Limassol and was later loaned to PAEEK. He then moved to FC Hermannstadt in Romania, before a move in 2023–24 took him to NK Radomlje in Slovenia for a handful of appearances and back to NK Rudeš in Croatia for three more. Every move since leaving Rijeka has come on a free transfer.
He has not been capped by Croatia's senior national team.
