About the player
Niklas Varelmann only broke into Preußen Münster's first team this year. In the Westphalian Cup against SSV Buer, a match Münster won 10:0, the left-back scored his first professional goal.
His path to that moment ran through the club's academy. Varelmann had come up through FC Eintracht Rheine before joining Preußen Münster's youth setup in 2020, and he spent the 2025–26 season with the reserve side, Preußen Münster II, making 22 appearances there. He signed his first professional contract in February 2026, a step that opened the door to the first team.
That door opened quickly. His senior debut came on 12 August 2026 in the Westphalian Cup against SpVgg Vreden, and he followed it with his 3. Liga debut on 30 August 2026 against Viktoria Köln. Between those two fixtures came the cup goal against Buer, giving him a scoring start to life among the seniors before he had even settled into the league.
Varelmann plays at left-back, in keeping with his preferred foot. He has not yet been called up to any German youth national team, from the U16s through to the U21s, and has no individual or team honours to his name so far.
