Shane Daniel McLoughlin

Shane McLoughlin was born in the Bronx, New York City, before moving to County Kerry at the age of five, and it was there, playing for Castleisland A.F.C. and later St Brendan's Park in the Kerry District League, that he was picked up by the Georgie O'Callaghan Schoolboys' Academy in Castleisland. Ipswich Town brought him into their academy in July 2013, and he progressed through a scholarship before signing his first professional contract in 2016.

A move to AFC Wimbledon in January 2019 gave him a regular platform, and he went on to make 71 appearances for the club, adding three goals, before spells at Morecambe and a brief stay at Salford City. At Newport County, where he signed in July 2023, McLoughlin became a fixture at right-back, making 70 appearances and scoring six goals. The stand-out moment of his time there came in the FA Cup, when he scored twice against Oldham Athletic to help Newport reach the second round of the competition.

He joined Cambridge United in July 2025 and has continued in the right-back role he has occupied for most of his career, adding two goals in his first season at the club. Alongside his club career, McLoughlin represented the Republic of Ireland at both under-16 and under-18 level, though he has not been capped at senior international level and remains eligible to represent either Ireland or the United States, the country of his birth.
