About the player
Ivan Varfolomeev arrived at Lincoln City in August 2025 on a four-year contract. Neither side disclosed the figure. Reports from the club's fan site The Stacey West and from XAB.info put the total at £700,000, including add-ons tied to promotions, with the base fee thought to exceed the £350,000 paid for John Akinde in 2018.
The move justified itself quickly. In his first season at Sincil Bank, 2025–26, Lincoln won the EFL League One title, and supporters voted Varfolomeev the club's Young Player of the Season.
His route to England began in Simferopol, where he started out at Tavriya. In 2014, after the occupation of Crimea, he moved to the Karpaty academy in Lviv and played in Ukraine's Youth Football League until 2020. That September he joined Rukh Lviv and made his senior debut in February 2021. He played twice in the league for Rukh before leaving for the Czech Republic in June 2022.
At Slovan Liberec he spent three seasons, making 51 league appearances and scoring two goals, before Lincoln came in for him.
For Ukraine he has worked his way up through the age groups: three caps at under-16 level, five and a goal at under-19, and 16 appearances for the under-21 side. In September 2026 he received his first call-up to the senior squad for the UEFA Nations League.
