William Paul Loturi Akio

William Akio's start in professional football came far from South Sudan's own football landscape: he broke through in Canada's lower divisions, playing for the Southern Alberta IT Trojans before joining Calgary Foothills FC. That path led him into the Canadian Premier League with Valour FC, netting 10 goals in 41 appearances.

The move that changed his career came in July 2022, when Ross County signed him from the Canadian Premier League into the Scottish Premiership. Akio suffered a knee injury requiring surgery during his very first match for the club. He returned from the setback via a loan spell at Raith Rovers, where he scored twice in 14 appearances before going back to Ross County.

In July 2023 Akio returned to the Canadian Premier League with Cavalry FC on a two-and-a-half-year contract, and again established himself as a reliable forward, scoring 6 goals in 18 appearances. That spell, too, was cut short by injury: an ankle problem sustained in July 2024 ended his season, and the contract was mutually terminated that December.

Akio then took his career to Australia, joining Tigers FC in March 2025 and winning the NPL Grand Final with the club before moving on to Marconi Stallions FC later that year.

Alongside his club career, Akio has represented South Sudan at international level since making his debut against Uzbekistan in a friendly in January 2022. He has gone on to earn caps in both AFCON qualifiers and World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
