About the player
Yang Mingyang was born in Basel before a change of international allegiance brought him to China. He came through the youth ranks at FC Fribourg, Neuchâtel Xamax and Lausanne-Sport, turning professional with the latter in 2013 and going on to make 81 appearances for the club.
A move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017 put him in the Championship, though he never made a first-team appearance for the club and instead spent a season on loan in Spain with FC Jumilla. He returned to Switzerland with Grasshoppers in 2020 and helped the club win the Swiss Challenge League title the following season.
Yang's career took a decisive turn in February 2021, when he joined Nantong Zhiyun in China. He made 115 appearances there and was part of the side that earned promotion to the Chinese Super League in 2022. That spell in Chinese football paved the way for his switch to Chengdu Rongcheng in February 2025.
Born in Switzerland, Yang switched his international allegiance to China, with FIFA clearing the change in May 2025. He received his first senior call-up to the national team, and has since gone on to earn caps at that level.
