«Les Verts»
In the 2015 final of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, the team that would carry Algeria's Olympic hopes came within one match of a continental title and lost it to Nigeria.
The side sits under the Algerian Football Federation as the country's under-23 selection, built to bridge youth football and the senior national team, and it wears the name Les Verts along with the shirt that gives it that name — green, drawn from the flag, with white for the home kit. Twice, in 2007 and 2010, it won the UNAF U-23 Tournament, the regional title contested among North African neighbours, and in 2017 it added a bronze medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Its matches are played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, a ground that opened in January 2023 to take over from the Stade du 5 Juillet. Rafik Saïfi took charge of the team in March 2026, with a squad captained by defender Ryad Kenniche.
