Mauritania U23

Abdellahi Nasser Dine spent his September playing for New York Red Bulls II before a call-up sent him back to Nouakchott, one of the squad named for the 2027 Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mauritania U23 carries the same nickname as the senior side, Mourabitounes, after the Almoravid dynasty, and wears the same green, yellow and red. The team has gone through qualifying rounds for the Africa U23 Cup of Nations and for Olympic football in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2016 and 2020 without ever reaching a final tournament.

Home games, when the fixture calls for one, are shared between the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya, which holds 8,200, and the larger Nouakchott Olympic Stadium; there is no ground the age group can call its own. Matches against Algeria U23 and against Mali in Olympic qualifying sit among the few fixtures with any real trace left behind them, going back to a 2015 friendly the Mauritanians won 1-0.

The federation, the FFRIM, still runs the team from Nouakchott, and as of September 2026 the qualifying campaign for 2027 is where the age group's attention sits.
