«Les Asfasiens»
A Catholic clergyman, Ambroise Ouédraogo, started the club in Ouagadougou to give the city's Catholic youth a team of its own, calling it AS Charles Lwanga after the Ugandan martyr. It was only the second club to be officially registered in the capital. In 1958 it merged with Raoul Gabriel Traoré's Racing Club to become AS Jeanne d'Arc, and under that name it won its first national title in 1973. In 1976 the club took on the name of Yennenga, the Mossi warrior princess. It settled on its present form, ASFA Yennenga, in 1988.
Les Asfasiens, as supporters call them, have carried the yellow and green through thirteen league championships, and their five Coupe du Faso wins were bookended by a long gap between 1995 and 2009. A regional title arrived in 1999, when they took the West African Club Championship.
They play at the Stade du 4-Août, rebuilt between 2021 and 2025, where older accounts once put the crowd capacity at 35,000 or even 40,000. The renovated ground now holds 29,800.
