Bahardar

Group A of the Ethiopian Higher League fell to Bahardar in 2018, and that win carried the club into the Premier League for the first time.

The promotion changed little about how the club is known around Bahir Dar. Locals still call it 'The Waves of Tana', a nickname borrowed from the lake that sits beside the city, and blue and white remain the colours on the shirt regardless of which division the team occupies.

Bahir Dar Stadium holds 60,000, a capacity built for a city where football has to share the calendar with Amhara Weha Sera, the other side that plays there. That overlap has produced a local rivalry of its own, running alongside the club's more established meetings with Welayta Dicha.

Ghanaian defender Alex Amuzu arrived in 2018, the same year the promotion was won. Eritrean international Ali Suleiman Ibrahim leads the line.

A campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup gave the club a rare look at continental football, though the Premier League table remains the more pressing concern.
